It’s called the “Melonhead” reflector. I don’t know why they call it that, but the box it comes in has a lot of funny watermelon head faces on it, and when you’re medicated, they look rad.
Anyways, I’ve gone through most all the reflectors on the market; I used them with my 1000 watt HID bulbs. And got sick of all of them except the Melonhead, which only came on the scene last year. Which means that the manufacturer had the chance to see design and performance problems with other reflectors, so they build the Melonhead to avoid those problems.
Among the reflectors I tried and discarded- the Silver Star, the Hydrofarm Cool Tube, the Hydrofarm Daystar, and the Adjust-A-Wing. All of them had problems with materials, workmanship, and how they delivered the light.
You ask “don’t you need the high power lights?”. It takes a whole lot of LEDs to make as much light as an HMI light. That many LEDs are much more expensive to buy, but they consume less power and run cooler. But HMI’s are already pretty efficient; it won’t save a huge amount of energy for the cost.

I need to buy a grow light for a hydroponic garden and have no clue what I need or what to get. I heard that LED lights were really good ? Also, I am not sure what ballasts and reflectors do. Do you need to buy them separately or can you buy one light that includes everything ? I will probably be growing herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, etc…

Well a ballast is what runs a grow light, 150w grow lights don’t require a starter "ballast" then the reflector is just a light shade, "like the ones in your home", you should be able to buy a grow light kit which will have the hole shebang, try and but a digital ballast as they’ve got a better start up current which means your grow bulb will last longer, and yeah led grow lights sound great, but i think i’ll wait till them prises drop a little first.
