they put out a lot more light power than florescent, at about 10% the electrical use. also they produce very little heat. a lot of pot growers are using them because of the low power drain and the low heat signal.

You ask "don't you need the high power lights?". It takes a whole lot of LEDs to make as much light as an HMI light. That many LEDs are much more expensive to buy, but they consume less power and run cooler. But HMI's are already pretty efficient; it won't save a huge amount of energy for the cost.

Well LED ( Light Emitting Diode ) work for the plant by emitting spectrums required for photosynthesis. I guess they don't get that warm. They are costly but you save money because they don't use much energy.

Thanks for all the great info! I really learned a lot from your video presentation. As an addition to all the information you shared, I have discovered from my readings that an nft hydroponics system is a favorite among commercial growers because it gives them more opportunities to grow more crops.

i love the idea, i think i might try that! only one problem, lumens cannot be added because that is the fequency that the light exits the bulb at. it seems simple to take 6 100 lumen bulbs to get 600 lumens, but this is false. you actualy only ever have 100. if you were to get a 200W and a 100W you would still have 200W this is due to the frequency at which the light waves exit the bulb. adding more bulbs only increases the heat and light output, which are very important as well in plant growth.

Great ideal, plants do not absorb green light so those green two litters might work well and allow you to see the roots. You could put a small led or one of those LED tap lights under it and get that same green glow effect.

@MrStepheninKY LOL yea. I’m talking to to a car stereo place cause my GF wants keyless entry with alarm. I asked about waterproof lighting for my plant and tosee guys thought it was hilarious and said they’d love to set me up with green waterproof lighting. LOL I just wish I could fine a green colored 3 liter bottle now!

@MIgardener Interesting. Sun Blaze 24″ grow lights come with 1 through 8 bulbs. 1 bulb system says it is 2000 lumens and an 8 bulb system says it is 16,000 lumens. From what I’ve read, lumens is the only true scientific measurement of light. I’ll have to see if I can find more about how lumens and frequency interact. Thanks!
